Streaming From Laptop to TV, Without Tripping Over Wires

Streaming your laptop’s content to a television or other display device often involves awkward reaches behind a display and dealing with all kinds of cables. The Iogear Wireless U.S.B. to VGA Adapter kit is a welcome alternative that lets you wirelessly connect to a VGA display from a PC as much as 30 feet away without running (and tripping) over cables.

The kit allows high-definition video streaming of up to 720 pixels and supports three hosts. And unlike other, more complicated, setups, with the Iogear adapter kit, you need only install the driver software, then connect the U.S.B. adapter to your personal computer and the VGA adapter to your display monitor. The system requires Microsoft Windows XP or Microsoft Windows Vista and does not connect with Wi-Fi or Bluetooth. But the adapter is pocket-size and easily transportable.

The Iogear Wireless U.S.B. to VGA Adapter kit is available through the Iogear online store (tr.im/ioYr) for $210. It is not the cheapest add-on, but it is a lot less expensive than having someone rewire your living room.

We have no control over the quality of the respective streams and claim no responsibility for the copyright or content of other sites.  Don’t shoot the messenger!

Meanwhile, here are some general suggestions to enhance your viewing pleasure, for watching both sports streams and movie and TV streams –

There are a myriad of sports streams and often these get shut down almost as quickly as they are created. Now sites like justin.tv have sprung up to allow you to watch a non-stop playlist of movies and TV shows.

On the plus side, there is very little buffering and stop-start crap to put up with. On the minus side, the quality is often poor and unless you go ‘full screen,’ you will have to watch the kiddies shouting at each other in the chat rooms.

Tip 1: you don’t have to register to watch the movies on justin.tv, but if you create a jtv account and add channels to your ‘favorites,’ you will receive a helpful email each time they start broadcasting.

Tip 2: To watch live Premier League games, live tennis, darts, snooker etc during week days, access the Live Sports links provided on the right of your page. As a long term strategy, we strongly recommend you register with the excellent HotdubzSports. Not only is it the best sports streaming site, but it gives a fairly comprehensive channel guide.

Tip 3: Bookmark this website! We will be updating the Live Weekend Sports section every Friday to give you a heads up on what to look forward to over the weekend.

Tip 4: If you click the links at the wrong time of day, they often won’t work. Duh! And once the broadcast is over, the links usually die.

Live Snooker – Welsh Open

What a strange tournament the Welsh Open has been! Nearly all the big names tumbled out early, leaving us with the unlikely final pairing of Ali Carter v Joe Swail.

We have a compendium of other links below. First session – Sunday 1pm. Second session – Sunday 8pm.

Links

ATDHE.net – Very clear and crisp streams. They thoughtfully provide two links, although the Masters is a one table tournament. So far, they have shown BBC and Eurosport coverage. If they show BBC2, you will be frustrated when they occasionally switch to Antiques Road Show. If they show Eurosport, you may have to deal with a German commentary.

BBC – The official coverage. UK users only.

Sportstime – Very good justin.tv site, with BBC commentary, which promises to cover the entire tournament.

Mordane – This has been the most reliable justin.tv snooker broadcaster for a long time. The site will provide full live coverage of the semi-final and final stage.

HotDubzSports – Check the channel list to see if snooker is on. Most likely, it will be Eurosport coverage.

Coalhouse – BBC coverage on this justin.tv site today.

MyP2P – Continuous coverage through the day.

Uggla – This is really a darts site on justin.tv but they might occasionally put the snooker on.

Eurosport Germany – Live text scoring, recorded video and some streaming.

TVUNetworks – Okay, if you don’t mind listening to shrieking Chinese commentators.

Channelsurfing.net – Eurosport coverage.

Andy Murray is in action at the Australian Open early on Monday morning against Fernando Verdasco – with a place in the quarter final at stake. With both Federer and Djokovic looking shaky in the other side of the draw, many now believe the winner of the tournament will come from the potential semi-final match up between Murray and Rafael Nadal.

Andy Murray faces the first real test of his Australian Open campaign as he plays Jurgen Melzer in the third round. Melzer nearly dumped Murray out of the US Open last year so Murray will have to be on his mettle. Currently, Serena Williams is on court as is her sister Venus’s conqueror Maria Jose Martinez Sanchez.
